Message from Ken
Who Am I?
My name is Ken Hymes and I’m running for the office of Mayor of Smyrna, GA. Why
am I running for Mayor? Because like many of you, I love Smyrna too! But most of
all, I want trust, conservative fiscal management, transparency, high ethical
practices and a public servant mindset to be the overarching culture of our City
Hall. Smyrna deserves no less.
I’m from North Carolina but attended college locally at Morehouse College. I have
been a resident of Smyrna for 23 years. I am an I.T. Program/Product Manager by
profession. I’m currently Director of Product Management at Warner Bros.
Discovery. I am a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., a service organization.
I have been a board member of my neighborhood HOA and have served as a math
tutor in the metro Atlanta area. I have provided volunteer services for various
community organizations in the area such as the Atlanta Food Bank. I am also a
mentor to young professionals who are starting their business careers.
I have one daughter, Ashley, who lives in Brooklyn, New York.
What I Stand For
FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY – evaluating all the financial needs of the City and using a
common-sense approach to select which projects are needed and funded. This also
means consistently reviewing and implementing contractual remedies with all
vendors to protect the City’s interests and to make sure your taxes are spent wisely
and effectively.
TRANSPARENCY – ensuring that all citizens have access to and opportunities to
comment on any major financial transactions BEFORE negotiations begin. This
involves a commitment to sharing the value proposition for these transactions with
Smyrna citizens and in a manner that is easily understood.
STRATEGIC VISION – collaborating with the City Council and Smyrna citizens to create a community vision for the city. This vision’s chief aim will be to serve our
community now and well into the future. We can safeguard our uniqueness as the
city grows while working together towards that vision which will address community and business development, transportation, housing, and capital improvements.
SERVANT-LEADER MINDSET – Ensuring our citizens and citizens’ best interests are
the top priority for the leadership and our city employees and staff, as they perform and deliver a responsive and courteous service to the community.
I hope that all citizens of Smyrna will agree with the importance of my foundational
tenets and will support my mayoral campaign. Smyrna has a bright future and
deserves a leadership citizens can trust and who serves their interests first!
